I was the Missouri/Kansas business correspondent for LocalBusiness.com, another online news service based in Fort Lauderdale, Fl. It was a “virtual newsroom” — each reporter and editor worked out of their own homes and communicated online or by phone. LocalBusiness.com covered small business, IPOs, and private equity. In my fifth month at this service, the company closed one third of its news bureaus, including Kansas City. It folded completely within the year, due to a lack of advertising.
